Suede Skin: NYFW’s Most Effortless Glow
Backstage at Kallmeyer’s fall 2026 show.
The other night, just as the sun lowered behind Manhattan, we found ourselves 39 floors up, watching Kallmeyer’s fall 2026 runway show while the city glowed all around us. Light poured through the windows and bounced off the models’ cheekbones. It was ethereal, angelic, supernatural, you get the gist—we were feeling nostalgic while it was still happening.
Backstage, our Director of Global Artistry, Shain, had a feeling the sunset was going to be on his side. The question was how to meet this force of nature—without trying to outshine it. The answer: A “restricted glow,” as he called it. “We let the simplicity of perfected skin sing loudly,” says Shain. And that was the whole point. Just “suede skin,” creating a refined “no-blush” effect.
With this in mind, the makeup was kept simple. Slip Tint™ Concealer was pressed in just where it was needed. Slip Tint™ Setting Powder was buffed on in thin layers to blur and soften. Dew Bronze™ gently shaped the cheeks. Our new Supersuede™ Radiant Baked Bronzer—which just launched!—warmed the eyes, much like the final trace of daylight. Plus, there were lots of romantic details: Lip Liner 101 along the lash line for a subtle blush (Shain says he’s in a Wuthering Heights headspace—but aren’t we all?), along with Glossybounce™ in Kiss for a barely-there sheen on the lips.
Of course, there was all the expected—and beautiful—chaos that comes with NYFW: makeup scattered everywhere, blowdryers humming, models weaving in and out, the day moving faster than anyone wanted it to.
Amid the buzz of it all, it was cool to watch time slow down when you tune into the present moment. (A reminder for our everyday hustle.) Models sat under Monastery’s The Deep Red LED Mask to calm their skin—and their minds. Our team shared BonBon candy breaks (those bubblegum-pink bags bring an immediate smile to our faces). It felt very fitting that designer Daniella Kallmeyer’s vision for this collection was grounded in her memories. As she wrote in her show notes, “In an age of disposability, this season asks what remains.”
What we can say is this is one memory we will hold onto for a very long time.
