We just got the film photos back from our recent trip at Camp Saie. Our friend and super talented photographer Lauren Leekley shot them all. (She photographs some of our favorites like Dua Lipa, Devon Lee Carlson and Dev Hynes!)
We knew having a film-forward photographer would build up anticipation to finally seeing the photos, but wow was it worth the wait! She shot everything on a Contax 645 medium format camera and used Portra 800 color film. Film photos take longer to develop and cost more than digital but there’s just something about them… Each shot feels precious, the colors are so juicy, and they all have this my-life-but-better sheen to them. We think Lauren captured the carefree, never-ending summer feeling of Camp Saie just right.

If this inspires you to explore dabbling in film, we highly recommend finding your camera on eBay (we love shopping second hand when we can!)
Another pro-tip is researching camera models and how the photos they take look. This website shows you examples of photos from different camera models and film types. Reddit is a great tool too!
Lastly, here are of our favorite places to develop film in NY and LA.
New York
Exposure Therapy (Bedstuy, Brooklyn)
Owned by a group of young photographer friends. They sell cameras, equipment and do photo developing too. They are so kind and helpful, especially if you’re just starting out.
Sammy’s Photo Lab (Lower East Side)
Family owned and can do 1-hour developing. They also sell Portra 400 when it’s constantly sold out everywhere. Keep in mind that they’re cash only.
Los Angeles
Incredible scanning quality and they also do VHS/video transfers for video film!
With love,
Team Saie
