A Vintage Birkin and Lip Liner: More Alike Than You Think
Pia Mance, founder of Heaven Mayhem, on the accessories she wears again and again.
Think about it: you can slip into your favorite pair of jeans and a classic tee, and sure—it works. It’s timeless, yes. But add a great pair of shoes, sculptural earrings (or something that’ll catch the light), the right bag—and suddenly, you’re not just dressed, you're styled. You've got a look. That’s the quiet luxury of accessories.
The same goes for makeup. A swipe of satin lip color, a pretty, diffused flush across your cheekbones, a flick of liner—these subtle finishing touches have maximum impact. “We accessorize our faces every day, even when we don’t think about it,” says our pro makeup artist Shain, noting that it can be as simple as “perfect eyebrows and really fluffy, defined lashes.”
It's not about piling everything on. Jewelry, makeup, whatever accessory you are reaching for—it all comes down to balance. “If I’m going to do a red lip, I like to keep everything else fresh—fluffy lashes, barely any eye makeup, a good eyebrow, and a bronze cheek,” says Shain. Not overdone. It’s about being intentional. Effortless in that very deliberate Kate Moss-in-the-90s smoky eye kind of way, as Shain points out.
That kind of curated ease? Pia Mance, a friend of ours, embodies it. As the founder of the accessories line Heaven Mayhem, Mance has built her brand—and her own style, which she describes as “classic, feminine, and innovative”—around the idea of wearable statements. And after she stopped by the office recently, we had to ask: how does she accessorize—with jewelry, makeup, and the little things that make her feel complete?
Here’s what she had to say.
SAIE: Tell us about the moment you knew you wanted to launch Heaven Mayhem.
Mance: It wasn't a particular moment per se—but a feeling. I knew I wanted to start something on my own so I tried jewelry and accessories, a passion of mine. I started off with vintage pendant necklaces in my bedroom, which took off, and then I introduced vintage-inspired earrings.
So, how do accessories play into your personal style?
I can’t complete an outfit or even leave the house without a piece from Heaven Mayhem. Accessories can transform a boring, plain outfit into something more interesting. I feel so put together and confident when I add a pair of earrings, my trusty Bottega Andiamo bag that fits my laptop, my Icon Watch on my wrist, and our newest addition: the Sloane Sunglasses in black.

Do you have any styling tips when it comes to accessorizing?
I have my everyday pieces that I wear on rotation. Right now, it’s the Clemmie Gold earrings, Icon Watch, and Sloane Sunglasses. Even a simple pair of sunglasses can elevate your outfit and make it instantly more eye-catching.
Okay, so stick to a signature look! Which pieces in your jewelry collection hold the most significance to you?
The Mini Knot Gold Earrings will always have a special place in my heart—they’re our OG, hero product. They are such a good piece to elevate any outfit and are part of my daily uniform—YSL loafers, St. Agni low-rise pants, and a Shushu Tong sweater. And I love our Real Fine Studio collaboration—it’s dainty, timeless, and gorgeous for every occasion. I wear the studs everyday and then swap them out for a statement earring if I want to add to the look.
Outside of jewelry, what’s your most treasured accessory?
My Birkin 25. It’s a luxury investment but such a special vintage piece in my closet. I wear it all the time and also cherish it, as it was a gift from my husband.
Love that! And Heaven Mayhem is known for creating wearable statements. How do you approach beauty with the same concept?
I have those pieces I wear on rotation daily and that’s the exact way I approach makeup. I have an easy go-to signature look. For me, that’s blush—I love Westman Atelier, Saie, Kosas, and Ilia—Refy Brow Sculpt, and Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Liner in Love Trap or Saie Lip Liner in Flirt. I outline my lips to make them look a bit fuller. I cannot finish a look without it—I feel naked otherwise and will not leave the house without lip liner on, even for a walk! I think a strong bold lip always ties the look together.
Beauty, like accessories, should feel like an extension of you.
Is there a particular beauty ritual that instantly boosts your mood?
I love dry brushing. My personal favorite is the Goop Ultimate Dry Brush—it makes me feel awake and invigorated all over and ready for the day.
What does the rest of your beauty routine look like? What’s your beauty philosophy?
It’s all about feeling like the best version of yourself. I keep my routine simple but intentional. I have a quick skincare routine from Christie Kidd down pat which makes everything easy. And then I love a glowy makeup routine with Glowy Super Gel. My overall energy and the way I go about the day completely shifts when I put in effort to getting ready in the morning.
I am also very regimented on wellness routines so that I can also feel beauty from within. I love my matcha—I like Rocky’s Matcha and Kroma Wellness Beauty Matcha Latte, and I always bring back a ton of matcha when I visit Japan. If you follow me on TikTok, you know that I love my Kroma Wellness Bone Broth Sachets and Par Olive Collagen, which I have every day. And I need 8 hours-plus of sleep, which is always better when I use The Skinny Confidential Mouth Tape.
You've been traveling a lot recently—any gems you’ve discovered?
I love Tokyo! I just came back from a trip there and it’s one of my favorite places. I love how down-to-earth the people are, the phenomenal cuisine, the nature, the culture. I love Japanese sweets and found such a cute, traditional sweet shop called Sasama. And the area around there has the cutest bookstores, too.
Now, we want to hear from you. What's your go-to accessory that always completes your look? Share with us in the comments.
Until next time,
